Black Cocoa Brownies with Vanilla Candy Melt

Using orange candy melts to create the Halloween swirl.

Learning how to bake your favorite treats from scratch will a) help you save money and b). be way more fun and enjoyable!

Once I figured out it wasn't that hard, bye bye to boxed brownie mix!

Ingredients:

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 stick of butter

3/4 cup black cocoa powder (I used this)

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla bean (I used this)

**candy melts, chocolate chips, Oreo cookies, white chocolate, etc.

The steps are simple. Since we recently trashed our microwave, I can no longer melt butter in the microwave so stovetop it is. Once completely melted, keep heat on low and slowly and carefully sprinkle in cocoa powder. Remove from heat and mix in sugars. Next, add in eggs and vanilla and mix well. This can all be done in the sauce pot you melted your butter in. In a large bowl, sift flour and salt. Using a baking spatula stir in cocoa sugar mix. Mix brownie batter until flour is no longer visible and mix resembles a dark chocolate, smooth batter.

**If using candy melts, chocolate chips. or any other additives, now is the time to add those into the mix. Next step, pour batter onto butter baking pan (8x9) and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

Let cool and serve!
